How History Predicted handles personal data submitted through the newsletter signup and the site.
Who is responsible
History Predicted is an independent editorial project that curates Professor Jiang Xueqin's Predictive History work. The operator is reachable at [email protected] and acts as the data controller for the purposes of the GDPR.
What data we collect
- Email address. Only when you choose to subscribe to The Predictive History Brief. The signup form is hosted by Beehiiv on our behalf.
- Server request data. Standard logs (IP address, user-agent, requested URL, timestamp) generated by Cloudflare when you visit any page. We do not run analytics, advertising, or fingerprinting scripts on the site.
- Cookies. The site itself does not set tracking
cookies. The embedded Beehiiv subscription form may set its own
functional cookies on the
beehiiv.comdomain to support form behaviour and double opt-in.
Why we collect it
Email addresses are used solely to send The Predictive History Brief, to confirm your subscription, and to let you manage or cancel it. Server logs are used to keep the site available, fast, and secure.
Legal basis
Newsletter subscriptions rely on your explicit consent under GDPR Art. 6(1)(a), confirmed through double opt-in. Server logs rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the site available and secure under GDPR Art. 6(1)(f).
Processors we use
- Beehiiv — newsletter delivery, subscription management, and signup form hosting. beehiiv Inc. is incorporated in the United States and stores subscriber data in AWS regions in the United States. Transfers from the EU rely on the appropriate transfer mechanism inside Beehiiv's Data Processing Addendum. See Beehiiv's privacy policy and the Beehiiv sub-processors list.
- Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, and edge security for the site. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
How long we keep it
Newsletter subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every email, or by writing to [email protected]. Server logs are retained by Cloudflare under their own retention policy.
Your rights under the GDPR
You have the right to access, rectify, delete, or export your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority — for example, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados in Portugal or the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos in Spain.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected].
Updates to this policy
We may update this policy when the tooling, processors, or legal requirements behind the site change. The "Last updated" date above tracks the latest revision.
